Alex G: Oct. 7 @ The Anthem

By Isabella Sicilian

Some artists program beats. Alex G picks up a guitar and, by God, does he play. Alex G, whose real name is Alexander Giannascoli (a mama mía), has been releasing music under said stage name since 2010. Mr. G, originally from Philadelphia, signed with RCA Records in 2024 and his newest album, Headlights,  was released on July 18, 2025, marking his major label debut. However, Mr. G is no stranger to making good music—Headlights is his tenth studio album, co-produced with Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait. The album has garnered much praise, Rolling Stone having described it as ‘brilliant folk-rock’ and Pitchfork calling it ‘a major label debut worthy of the all-time indie graduations.’ Mr. G, who began as a DIY bedroom recording project on Bandcamp in 2010, gradually built a cult following through word-of-mouth for over more than ten years. And in other great news, particularly for me, Alex G is performing on October 7, 2025, at The Anthem in Washington, DC, at 8:00 PM. The show will feature British Musician Nilüfer Yanya as support, while touring to promote his new album, Headlights. My only question left is: Does Alex G shorten his Italian name as a victim of anti-Italian discrimination, or is he ashamed of his Italian heritage? Only time will tell. Until then, “La pazienza è la virtù dei forti.” Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
