Friko is playing at the Atlantis October 26, 2026. This indie rock band is from Illinois and started as duo Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger. Their sound is melodramatic and noisy. They commonly get compared to BCNR and Arcade Fire, but I think that leaves out their more folky attributes that are reminiscent of This is Lorelei or Frog.

Friko’s new album, “Something Worth Waiting For,”  was met with a lot of mixed reviews. It’s consistent with their previous discography, but it’s kind of boring. I wish Friko would follow the Black Arcade Country Fire wave and really lean into the weirdness of indie rock.

I’m of the opinion that indie rock is always better live. I think bands that have sounds similar to Friko’s lose a lot of quality when recorded and released. Most issues I have with their new album (I think) are because of the production. Their shows are supposed to be super fun and high energy so I can’t wait to see for myself.

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Two Door Cinema Club will be playing at The Anthem this Sunday, October 11th!

The tour marks the (roughly) 15th Anniversary of their hit album, Tourist History, released in 2010, where they first made their break for hits like “What You Know” and “Undercover Martyn,” the latter of which found a whole new generation of fans when it took off on TikTok in 2019. They’re the kind of songs where you tell a friend about them, they swear they’ve never heard them, and then you hit play and they gasp, “Ohhh, that song!”

Known for their upbeat blend of jangly guitars, synth-driven hooks, and dancey indie pop rock, Two Door Cinema Club will truly make you forget DC’s descent into colder and colder weather. Between the infectious hooks and a crowd singing every word, The Anthem should feel plenty warm.

Whether you’ve been a fan since the early days or you only know them from a viral clip, this is a perfect excuse to dance away an autumn Sunday night. Grab your friends, bring your best singalong voice, and get ready to rediscover a decade-and-a-half-old album that still sounds fresh!

  • Alex G: Oct. 7 @ The Anthem

    By Isabella Sicilian

Some artists program beats. Alex G picks up a guitar and, by God, does he play. Alex G, whose real name is Alexander Giannascoli (a mama mía), has been releasing music under said stage name since 2010. Mr. G, originally from Philadelphia, signed with RCA Records in 2024 and his newest album, Headlights,  was released on July 18, 2025, marking his major label debut. However, Mr. G is no stranger to making good music—Headlights is his tenth studio album, co-produced with Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait. The album has garnered much praise, Rolling Stone having described it as ‘brilliant folk-rock’ and Pitchfork calling it ‘a major label debut worthy of the all-time indie graduations.’ Mr. G, who began as a DIY bedroom recording project on Bandcamp in 2010, gradually built a cult following through word-of-mouth for over more than ten years. And in other great news, particularly for me, Alex G is performing on October 7, 2025, at The Anthem in Washington, DC, at 8:00 PM. The show will feature British Musician Nilüfer Yanya as support, while touring to promote his new album, Headlights. My only question left is: Does Alex G shorten his Italian name as a victim of anti-Italian discrimination, or is he ashamed of his Italian heritage? Only time will tell. Until then, “La pazienza è la virtù dei forti.” Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
