  • Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners: Oct. 21 @ 9:30 Club

    By Lily Saal

Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners, an up-and-coming folk band hailed by the Seattle Times as Seattle’s next breakout band, will perform at the 9:30 Club on Oct. 21 at 7 PM. Following their D.C. show, the band – known for their popular songs “Evergreen” and “Lake Missoula” – will continue debuting their latest EP, Colorado’s On Fire Again, on their 2025 tour.

Frontman Mitch Cutts, producer Nic Haughn, and drummer Jakob Ervin, three lifelong friends from Colorado Springs, formed the band, also known by the acronym RMCM, during their high school years. On the day of graduation in 2017, the trio released their debut album before splitting to attend respective colleges. They returned to their music on breaks and whenever possible, releasing two further albums: Solstice (2018) and Subliming (2019). The band’s fame skyrocketed in 2023 when the one-minute and 27-second opening of their debut album, “Evergreen,” went viral on TikTok, generating over half a billion Spotify streams. They followed up with a longer, well-rounded collaboration with established folk band Mt. Joy and later continued their collaboration success with the release of their song “Lake Missoula,” featuring Caamp, which gathered over 100 million Spotify streams. “We all take a lot of influence from bands that have come from that area in the greater Northwest,” Cutts told Seattle Times. “And also, it’s great for writing. I love what the nature brings. It’s always been a focal point of our music.”

After finishing a sold-out 2024 tour and playing at festivals such as Lollapalooza, Under The Big Sky, and Hinterland, RMCM released their latest EP, Colorado’s On Fire Again, in March 2025. The fully independent EP, self-produced, self-mixed, and self-mastered, reflects on the devastating wildfires in Colorado each year, with proceeds from the album benefiting Wildfire Councils across the state.

To hear RMCM’s latest EP, and favorites like “Evergreen,” catch them next week at the 9:30 Club on Oct. 21!

  • Modest Mouse is Set to Take the Stage at The Anthem on Oct. 18

    By Sofia Errichetti

Modest Mouse kicked off its fall 2025 North America tour on September 30th in Aspen, Colorado, with twelve stops in the Midwest, Southcentral, and Northeast U.S. and Canada before coming to Washington, D.C. on October 18th. Their tour will wrap up a few days later on October 21st in Brooklyn, NY, at the Paramount Theatre. This month-long slate, with support from Built to Spill, comes after a busy summer for the group, including a run of shows with support from Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch and a number of shows co-headlining with The Flaming Lips. In addition, the band’s inaugural Psychic Salamander festival took place in September in Carnation, Washington. Modest Mouse isn’t stopping there, as the band’s inaugural Ice Cream Floats cruise, which gives fans the opportunity to enjoy live music at sea, takes off this February.

This fall’s tour with Built to Spill brings together two of the preeminent bands in indie rock. Modest Mouse was formed in 1993 in Issaquah, WA and found success at the turn of the century with songs such as “Float On” and “Dashboard.” June 2021 marks Modest Mouse’s latest album release, with “The Golden Casket.” The group also released a 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition of its iconic album, “Good News for People Who Love Bad News,” in April 2024.

Built to Spill was formed in 1992 in Boise, Idaho. Uniquely, frontman Doug Martsch is the only permanent member of the band, as he intended from its inception for the backing musicians to change every album. Though Built to Spill hasn’t enjoyed as much mainstream success as Modest Mouse, it boasts critical acclaim and an outsized influence on the indie rock genre. • Arc De Soleil Will Be Chasing the Sun @ 9:30 Club

    By Abigail Kane

On October 24th, Arc De Soleil will be stopping at the 9:30 Club for their La Mirage Tour, which kicked off this July in California. Sri Lanka–born multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer, and producer Daniel Kadawatha created the project Arc De Soleil as a way to connect with his roots, inspired by the sound of his father’s guitar. While based in Sweden, Arc De Soleil draws influence from sounds and artists around the world like Khruangbin, blending laid-back grooves and soulful melodies into a distinctly Thai-funk inspired sound.

The tour celebrates the release of Lumin Rain, Arc De Soleil’s newest album, which dropped in June 2025. The record builds on the dreamy, instrumental textures fans have come to love, offering a hypnotic mix of funk, jazz, and psychedelic soundscapes. Tracks like “Velvet Mirage” and “Sunchaser” showcase Kadawatha’s signature blend of warmth and wanderlust, taking listeners on a journey through shimmering guitars and fluid rhythms.

Following their D.C. performance, Arc De Soleil will continue the La Mirage Tour through major cities across North America and Europe, marking their largest headline run to date. Known for immersive live shows and genre-bending sound, Arc De Soleil promises an evening that feels both transportive and deeply personal. Get your tickets now!

  • Big Thief Preview 10/24/25

    By Molly Jenkins

Indie folk band Big Thief is coming  to Washington D.C. this Friday, October 24th. After a three year hiatus to focus on solo projects, the band will be stopping at The Anthem to tour their new album Double Infinity. This album is the band’s sixth studio album but first as a trio after founding bassist Max Oleartchik left the band. Infinity is a follow-up to their 2022 album “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You”. Despite the break, the band sounds as loose, intuitive, and mystical as ever. Singer-songwriter Adrienne Lenker traces her memory into each song with themes of the cycles of grief and love and embodying your feelings rather than trying to predict or control them. Big Thief promises a show that is entrancing, heartbreaking, and ethereal. After their Washington D.C. stop, the band will continue their “Double Infinity” tour into Queens, NY and various areas of the south. This concert is a can’t-miss, so get your tickets now!

  • Peak Into Magdalena Bay’s Creative World Ahead of Their 10/25/25 Show at the Anthem

    By Olivia Pozen

Magdalena Bay creates a new website for every album release, a thematically curated, interactive experience meant to draw listeners into both a new sound and energy. The duo’s second album, Imaginal Disk, touts a website reminiscent of your mother’s vintage computer. It features an unnerving collection of anonymized figures in town center sites and liminal back rooms that prompt reflection from even the most pretentious indie starling media critic fans. The probing website content sets the tone for the album itself, a musically complex, conceptually dense album following True, whose body rejects a compact disk implant that is meant to transform her into her “ideal self.” Imaginal Disk thus grapples with questions of humanity and memory atop a groovy, innovative pop sound. The LA-based pop duo continues to push the boundaries of pop music in an age where optimistic sound is increasingly sanitized and mainstream.

Magdalena Bay’s “Imaginal Disk Mystery Tour” arrives at The Anthem on Saturday, October 25, promising an evening of sonic transcendence and self-reflection. Tickets can be purchased here.

  • Thundercat Preview 10/28/25

    By Sofia Errichetti

hundercat kicked off his fall 2025 North America tour on October 15th in Atlanta, GA. Following a busy August spent performing across Latin America, he will continue playing for his North America slate, hitting cities like New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and others, in addition to his October 28th show in Washington, D.C. at The Anthem. No opener has been announced.

Though Thundercat’s last studio album release was in 2020 with It Is What It Is, the singer/songwriter and acclaimed bassist has recently released two new singles: “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time” and “Children of the Baked Potato (feat. Remi Wolf).” In 2023, he came out with a special 10th anniversary edition of his second-ever studio album, Apocalypse

Hailing from Los Angeles originally, Thundercat, born Stephen Lee Bruner, grew up amongst prominent musicians, including those in his own family. His father, Ronald Bruner Sr., a drummer, performed with The Temptations and The Supremes. Bruner’s mother, Pam, was a flautist and percussionist, and his brother, Jameel, was a keyboardist for the debut album of The Internet, an R&B-soul band. Bruner, though known primarily for his singing and bass-playing, is also a talented songwriter and producer. He utilizes this medley of musical abilities in his frequent collaborations with other artists, such as Erykah Badu, Mac Miller, and, most notably, Kendrick Lamar on To Pimp A Butterfly, a project for which Bruner won a Grammy. He has four solo albums, including his most recent project, which earned him the Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album.

  • Alex G: Oct. 7 @ The Anthem

    By Isabella Sicilian

Some artists program beats. Alex G picks up a guitar and, by God, does he play. Alex G, whose real name is Alexander Giannascoli (a mama mía), has been releasing music under said stage name since 2010. Mr. G, originally from Philadelphia, signed with RCA Records in 2024 and his newest album, Headlights,  was released on July 18, 2025, marking his major label debut. However, Mr. G is no stranger to making good music—Headlights is his tenth studio album, co-produced with Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait. The album has garnered much praise, Rolling Stone having described it as ‘brilliant folk-rock’ and Pitchfork calling it ‘a major label debut worthy of the all-time indie graduations.’ Mr. G, who began as a DIY bedroom recording project on Bandcamp in 2010, gradually built a cult following through word-of-mouth for over more than ten years. And in other great news, particularly for me, Alex G is performing on October 7, 2025, at The Anthem in Washington, DC, at 8:00 PM. The show will feature British Musician Nilüfer Yanya as support, while touring to promote his new album, Headlights. My only question left is: Does Alex G shorten his Italian name as a victim of anti-Italian discrimination, or is he ashamed of his Italian heritage? Only time will tell. Until then, “La pazienza è la virtù dei forti.” Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
