Calexico - Garden Ruin - Quarterstick

Calexico has made interesting sounds on their newest album. It blends rock, folk, Latin and blues to form a fine disk of head-nodding, finger-tapping indie niceness. “Roka” picks up on their Latin-rock style in a solid progression. Their typical, soothing lyrics are also present on songs like “Yours and Mine,” and “Panic Open String.” They also hit a surprisingly poppy note on “Letter to Bowie Knife,” sounding like something that’d be on the OC. It’s okay, though, the album is much better than anything on Fox.
